Mara and Jeremiahs Love Story ~Mount Frontenac Golf Course

JWPhotography 2016 - 1a

I met this couple quite few months ago for their engagement session, which was so much fun! They had me a tad worried when we drove down some random dirt roads and man-made paths, but the session turned out amazing, what an adventure that was! I had a blast with them and was looking forward to their special day!

Now, I feel like I blinked my eyes and it was already June 18th! The sun was shining and the drive down to Mount Frontanec Golf Course was a dream. Far enough away from the cities to have minimal traffic and no road construction. In June? I know! I think that was the best part of the drive! I arrived at Mount Frontanec Golf Course. I slowed down, thinking I was there when I pulled in, but then I realized it was still a mile straight up a HUGE hill. I later found out, this used to be a ski resort so this massive hill made sense. At the top of the very steep hill was, hands down, the most gorgeous golf course I have ever seen. To be honest, I have not been on many golf courses, as I do not golf. I have done a handful of weddings on them, but this one had a one-of-a-kind view. Being so far up on that ski hill they had a very unique and mesmerizing view of Red Wing, Minnesota. I made sure to capture some of the killer view, plenty to see below in the pictures!

I was greeted by the sweet owners and they were just the most helpful couple. They showed me around to some of the places to take photos and where everything was going to take place. I love when someone can show me around and let me know where the nooks and cranny’s are! When Mara arrived, everything went according to the plan. We hopped in the car and ventured our way back down the steep hill to head into Red Wing, where Jeremiah was waiting to see his beautiful bride. They decided to do a first glance before the ceremony, I love when couples do this so I can catch the grooms face! So glad she chose the river for her first glance, couldn’t have been any better if I picked it myself! After that, we all rushed back to finish up formal pictures, then it was time!

The ceremony was beautiful, the music, the dresses, the flowers, everything. The reception definitely was their style and the food was so good, I mean sooooo good! I LOVED the adorable cake toppers! When it was about time for Gretchen (my second shooter) and I to pack up, we were so lucky to get to take Mara’s ’68 Purple Mustang out to the beautiful bluff overlooking Red Wing. These were definitely some of my favorite shots of the day! Thank you Mara and Jeremiah for giving me the honor to capture your special day. It was perfect in every way. Thank you to Mount Frontenac staff and owners for being so amazing!

An Engagement Session ~ Plymouth and Stillwater, MN

JWPhotography 2016 - 1

Meet Blaine and Adrienne! My word, these two are unbelievably cute! Blaine is Captain of the Plymouth, Minnesota Fire Station 2! So, naturally, we had to get some fun shots at his station. These two were so natural behind the camera I just couldn’t get enough of them. Kissing in the fire truck?! Adorable! After a few AMAZING shots and laughs at the fire station we headed over, way over, to Stillwater, Minnesota.

For those of you who have never explored the fabulous and historic, Downtown Stillwater, I highly recommend taking a trip to see this cute town. Check out their website for events and things to do!  It’s a cute little town right on the St.Croix River, they have tons of stuff to do year-round. Its filled with unique shops, a beautiful one of kind lift bridge and a breathtaking view of it all, at the top of a really, really high set of stairs. I love doing photo shoots here, every time I come here, everything is a little different.

There are tons of historic buildings, nooks and doorways to take a few moments to smile by. I love that it can be rustic and urban at the same time! They have an ice cream shop right on Mainstreet, called Leo’s Malt Shop. Ice cream is their “thing”, so of course, we had to stop! There is always a line, but its worth the wait!

We ended our session where it all began, where Blaine proposed to Adrienne! Remember those really, really high stairs I mentioned earlier? Well, at the top is a beautiful over look of everything and that’s where he popped the question!

Simply stunning. We went up there at just the right time, to get some beautiful golden sun shots, right before it went down!

Congrats you two, I cant wait to capture your special day in just a few short months!

Tim & Renee’s Fairytale Wedding at The Cannon River Winery in Cannon Falls, MN

  JWPhotography 2016 - 1

70 degrees, sun shining bright, light breeze, wine waiting to be poured and a beautiful view. These two love birds couldn’t have gotten married on a better day! But, before I go into the details of their big day, I thought I would share with you a little bit about these two. This is how they met and how Tim proposed!

“We met at my work–He started bringing his dog to the daycare that I worked at, at the time, and continued to bring him, just to see me! Tim proposed when we arrived to move all of our stuff into our new house.”

Renee started her special day at Regis Hair salon, in Apple Valley, with her favorite hair stylist! I love to capture all the fun getting ready shots, so many of them are spontaneous, and not posed! It really captures how much us ladies go through to complete the look of one of the biggest days of our lives! After her hair was all prettied up and she had that beautiful bride glow, we hopped in the car and headed to Cannon River Winery in Cannon Falls, MN. It was about a 35 minute drive from the St.Paul, so great that a place this gorgeous is just a short drive away! The winery has a quaint small town feel, plus, it is adorable and elegant at the same time, I can see why they chose this location. Renee finished getting ready there with her bridesmaids. Once she had her dress on we hopped on a shuttle that brought us to their secret vineyard about 15 minutes away.

Yes, I said secret vineyard, how romantic! We got there and words cannot begin to describe this place, it was just gorgeous! As you pull up the long dirt road, you see where the ceremony is going to take place, with a cute little shelter to keep the sun off guests, as they watch. Then, you look out and realize, all you see for miles are grapevines! With it being only the middle of May, the grapes and leaves were just starting to form. That touch of extra green definitely made the pictures pop! Tim and Renee had their first look in the shelter. Once we were done with pictures, the ceremony started. Everything was just perfect! We headed back to the winery via shuttle, no one was to drive out to the secret vineyard location, I thought that was fun! The rest of the night was priceless, filled with smiles, laughter and making memories. They had the winery decorated perfectly, the food was excellent and the DJ’s were a blast. There could not have been a better day or location for these two to tie the knot!

Thank you two for choosing and trusting me to capture your BEAUTIFUL wedding day! Congratulations again and I wish you both many, many years of happiness!

Yesterday I got the privilege to display my work at the Plymouth Creek Spring Wedding Expo! I have to first say thank you to Angie who put the whole event on, she did a wonderful job at coordinating and everything went so smoothly because of her expertise! I met so many new vendors here around the Twin Cities and a couple other fellow photographers I did not know and hope to work with in the future! Over all it was a wonderful show. The best part was meeting all of the beautiful brides, grooms, mothers, grandmothers, aunts and friends! You are what made the Plymouth Creek Wedding Expo fun and exciting! I loved hearing about how “he proposed” or just about your wedding planning! I had some great laughs with some of you and I feel like it we really hit it off. Kayeden + Cassia 12.19.15 ~ Lakeville, MN

Cassia and Kayeden are just the cutest couple!!! Cassia and I met, which now seems forever ago, to talk about her big day and see if Jessica Wilson Photography was the right fit for her; and what she was looking for in a photographer. As it turns out, we both were pumped for what Minnesota ALWAYS has to offer us in winter months, SNOW! Well, we can never predict mother nature and what she is supposed to offer… The weather was a little off, all over the country, like Minnesota having NO SNOW in December! I was a little sad because I was looking forward to beautiful snowy shots. Then, I finally got to the Chart House, and the moment I saw how the ice on the lake glistened with the little bit of snow along the lake shore, it turned my frown upside down! The temperature that day was not forgiving either, so we had to move fast.

My best photographer moment ever was when I was trying to get a better angle so I took a few steps backwards out onto the lake. Kayeden looked at me with fear in his face and said he just saw fish swimming… right under the water where I was standing! With the lack of snow here in Minnesota, we also had a lack of cold weather so our lakes were not completely frozen yet either. That could have been very bad, but I have to do what I have to do to get the best shot! Despite the elements, your wedding turned out beautiful and I am so happy to have been a part of it.

Congrats again! I wish you two the best for many years to come!

Holiday Mini Sessions in Lake Elmo, MN

I was so excited to do these holiday mini sessions outside and not in a studio! This was my very first stylized shoot where I put together this whole cute little set of favorite holiday items… My set consisted of hot cocoa, candy canes and marshmallows, lots of marshmallows, some snowflakes and cute pinecones! I had always wanted to do a session at a Christmas tree farm but being so busy this time of year, it just never happened. This year I was determined to make the time and block a day to do minis out at one! I searched all around the Twin Cities for the perfect tree farm. One that wasn’t to far north or too far south, since I have so many clients all over the metro, I really wanted to make sure it would work for anyone. I stumbled upon a small family owned tree farm in Lake Elmo that is so adorable, it was perfect for my sessions. I spent a full day out at Kruger’s Tree Farm in Lake Elmo, MN last weekend capturing 12 different families holiday pictures!

I started the day with the sun just coming up over the horizon. It made for a great first session of the day. The sun was in full force. It was shinning bright. But don’t let that fool you it was COLD! I had a blast getting to know new clients and seeing a couple of my regulars. Thank you everyone for making this day so fun! Your sessions turned out so wonderful and I can’t wait to see everyone again soon! Also, a shout out to my wonderful assistant Tasha who was 7 month pregnant (with twins!) and ran around all over the place for me!

A Family Session ~ Bloomington, MN

I know, 9 mile creek again. I just can’t help myself, this location is so pretty! This time, things were MUCH different… I brought a boy, his dog and his parents on down to the creek for this session. As I posted before, sometimes the water is different, and this time around, the water was a little higher due to the rain we had. So, for everyone’s safety, there wasn’t too much climbing on the rocks, but their were leaves!

When we first got there Easton was really tired, he fell asleep on the car ride there and did not want to wake up! I didn’t think he would want anything to do with me or waking up, which is always a struggle, but the show must go on! What finally got him up? Running, lots of running! Mom and dad definitely must have their hands full at home, always on the go. The rest of the session was running and playing with his pup! We got to the end of the session and thought we would play in the leaves a bit. Bruce, their pup definitely knows how to put on a show. They would throw a pile of leaves in the air and Bruce would fly through the sky and bite them out of the air. So funny!

Thank you for allowing me to capture your family’s memories and I look forward to capturing more in the future!

My First Expo ~ St.louis Park, MN

Now that I have a website I thought, what a better way to get my name and brand out there, than to look into expos and vendor events! l began researching into different events coming up and getting advice from a “seasoned expo veteran” (my husband) on what to look for and how to get set up. There is a lot out there! Wedding expos, Baby expos, County Fairs, Car Shows, and tons of events in between! I thought to get my feet wet, I would start with a small vendor show and see how it went, how it works, who to talk to, etc. MediaPro Expo was a great first expo for me! I learned a lot of what to do and what not to do, but overall, it was a great experience! I met a lot of great people, a bunch of potential clients and even helped a fellow vendor-neighbor and bought some delicious cupcakes! I look forward to doing more in the future, please watch my website and Facebook for upcoming events!

Launch Party~Blaine, MN

IMG_6814This website and blog was such a long time coming that naturally, it had to be made a big deal! The late nights, emails, texts, phone calls and many chats with tech support seemed to never end. But alas! We made it to the end, after moving the launch date three times, it was time! We we were so excited to finally launch it that we had to celebrate! And of course, any good celebration includes sushi! LOTS and LOTS of sushi!!! Well, at least in my life, and Tasha’s coincidentally enough (its like we were meant to do this together!).

Deciding to have a sushi launch party was planned a good month before the actual launch date, so all work work work so we can play! Before we could go out and celebrate we had to make a couple final touches before we hit the button! Adding images, editing wording, updating PDFs, and making sure everything was grammatically correct took FOREVER, but we got it! We combed through each page with crazy attention to detail to make sure everything was exactly how we wanted it! We were checking the mobile site on her IPad, I had it up on my phone, and all of a sudden, Flash! Her husband grabbed the camera and captured us in one of our intense focus sessions! Thanks Josh!
Working on this site together was challenging some days because we both have different styles, but in the end there is a good mix on the site. There were a lot of “I love yous” and “Remember you love me right’s?” passed around. Not to mention the subject lines in emails, “please don’t be mad” and “UGH sorry I haven’t even had time to look at this” Now, to keep the blogs coming and website views up!

Coming soon: Blog about my latest maternity session! Eeeekkk! Soooo adorable!

My First Blog!

It’s here its finally here! Are you just as excited as I am!!??? It has been a long journey, a long time coming but I finally have my very own website and BLOG!!! Now, What to write for my first blog???

WOW! My very first blog! I went ‘round and ‘round for a long time about what I wanted my first post to be about. There is so much that I want to say and do, so where do I start? Then, it hit me, this first blog will be the one I want everyone to read first. So, I decided my first blog will be a huge note about all of the OhMyGoodnessThanksAMillion, YouAreALifesaver!, YouHaveNoIdeaHowMuchIAppreciateThis and just plain Thank Yous that I have. It has been a long journey to get to the place where I am today and so many people have helped me along the way that they deserve to be recognized. So here goes!

I want to start with my amazing husband. He has been by my side since the day I decided to go take that giant scary, life-changing leap into owning a small business owner. He has been through all the crazy ups and crazier downs and either celebrated with me or picked me up. He has been there to listen to all of my stories and ideas, some good and some bad, but either way, he is still at my side until the end. We have had to make so many sacrifices to help my business get to where it is; I just want him to know that I cherish that we got through the tough times and we did this together. I am so grateful to have such a loving and supportive husband. Thank you for helping me chase after my dreams.

Next, I need to thank one of my best friends, who has been with me through it all! Tasha has put so much hard work and dedication into me and my business. We have had countless bouts of laughter, inside jokes and late late late nights. She has been super encouraging and willing to push me to move forward, to better not only myself but advance my skills and networking. She is the reason I have this wonderful new site and blog. Oh, and a twitter and Instagram account…. Me, have a twitter account?…. I know crazy right? This is going to be interesting…. Thank you from the top and bottom of my heart for everything you do. Thank you to your husband and son for being patient with us too! THANK YOU!

I can’t forget my clients. You are the reason I do what I do. Seeing your smiles just lights up my life, and reminds me that this is why I love what I do. I couldn’t be where I am today without you! So many of you keep coming back and it warms my heart to see you and your family grow right there is black and white. THANK YOU!

I have so many people to thank, my mom, my dad, my grandparents, my in-laws, and friends! I could go on forever. Thank you to all of my family and friends for being there to watch the kids while I work. If I didn’t have you I would have to go through the scary process of getting a real babysitter……. So thank you for saving me time and money! Ha! So many more people to thank, you know who you are.

That’s it, my first Blog! Thank you all for your support!!! I can’t wait to show you what else I have instore! Keep an eye out for my next blog! J
